Yeah.....It's been a long time! I went into a hole....(giggle)....it wasn't dark it was just a life readjustment!

As to the KarmynKast...I'm listening to the last one. Hmmm... So many life changes...for the better...but some is personal and not sharable! Heck, I don't even remember my Mevio account! UStream has to be the way to go!

Have gotten a LOT of new technology.

Using my Mac for teaching and recording students....not myself....I know, I know!!!

I've been battling a cold/flu since before Christmas! It's AWFUL! I think I'm on the mend, but of course I thought that last time too. On my 3rd round of antibiotics and coughing like a smoker!

Wanted to share this! This was my Christmas present to myself! I LOVE it! Roku is AWESOME! I don't have cable and this sure does pacify!

Cold and Flu season! I swear every year I'm ill at Christmas! Some years it's worse than others! This year is one of those WORSE! Grrr!

I've having my second battle with the cold bug this year! The first time, it settled in my ears; this time...my throat! Grrr! A laryngeal infection. WHY ME!!!

It's my second day of laryngitis and this time....there really is no voice! Yesterday it felt like a golf ball was in my throat. Today it feels like a marble on fire!

I am working on a film though! It's called The Blob! Seriously the things coming out of my throat and sinus is a horror flick!

Poor Kitty is confused! He doesn't understand why mommy is making such awful noises AND why she can't make it stop raining!! :) But his lovings make everything all better! :)

So, just an FYI.....

So I got to record today with the AMAZING Jeff Urband at his studio in North Hollywood! He's worked with Bonnie Raitt and her father for years! He's just an UNBELIEVABLE talent! I'm VERY honored every time I get a chance to work with him!

We worked on a song called Two Words for a wedding!!

OMG!! I've been waiting for this for AGES!!! (Okay, since last Christmas!) But now....I'm SOOO happy!!

YES you have to have a subscription! And since I got rid of cable.....NETFLIX has been AWESOME!! A SMALL monthly fee and LOADS of movie/TV shows to watch!! It's SO awesome!!

I think Hulu is $9.99 which is $1.50 more than Netflix's lowest package. Hulu is still free online so far. I'm sure it won't be soon....like the beginning of next year! I could be wrong.

You can start watching a stream on your computer then pick up where you left off on your iPod touch and vice versa

Anywho! Go to your iPhone or iPod Touch App and search for Netflix! (yeah!!!!)

Read Unread Gmail Emails FAST!

So, I, like everyone else in the universe who's had email since the 90's, try like crazy to organize my email! In Yahoo, I can easily check my unread messages, so many times on my iTouch, I'll just forward them to an email that I never give out! WELL, I had a genius moment today. Google my problem.....duh!!!! And I came up with this website that will effectively SAVED MY TIME!!

Google Tutor

Basically when you go to your gmail account search box:

Simply type in, "is:unread"

And BOOM! All of your unread emails show up! So now....when I need to get back to an email via my home computer....I can!

Well, it's the new year. Technologically I have been poo-pooed on. My hard drive for my Karmyn Kast is still gone and I've been pretty bummed about it all. Thinking of going back to audio. Not sure.

Updates: I'm blogging this from my new itouch. Thank you mom, dad, and Diane! It is pretty darn cool. It's easier than taking my computer around everywhere. ALSO I cut my hair. I cut it ALL off! I hope to have photos soon, but we will have to see.

I do hope everyone had a great holiday. I went back to Texarkana and had a fun, but busy time.

I'm changing things up this year. It's time for change. :)

Yes, it's been a long time. The long and the short of it? Family illness (my father is recovering perfectly - praise God!), I've been working (praise God!) and I have not had a lot of time.

I honestly have 3 podcasts ready, BUT as I was getting the first one edited, one of my extended hard drives started acting strangely. I took it in and.....well......it's not looking good. For some reason it won't boot in my computer and it makes other computers crash. My LIFE is in that drive.

My computer guy said I could pay $800 (WHAT!) to take it to a special transferring place. And one of his clients paid $15,000 to get that done. (The client? James Cameron.) Well, I don't have that kind of money, so he's (my computer guy) making a few phone calls to HP to see what can be done.

I am grateful for a lot of things! And if the drive is lost for good, I'll have to start ALL over. All over. Not just with my kast, but also my music, my professional photos, resumes....everything. But I am grateful. For a new beginning. Maybe that's just what I need!

I should find out next week the verdict. And until then, I choose not to worry. I choose to have a fabulous day and weekend! :)

So if you read my Twit today...I saw a baboon's......THING! Wow! I forget that animals could care less! The Bronx Zoo was fun, but it was "Pay what you think" donation day so EVERYONE and their kid was there!!! I honestly got a little claustrophobic! Grr!! But the animals were SO cool! The tiger exhibit was closed and that made me sad. I was hoping to see a bangal tiger like Skinny Kittie! I DID see a snow leopard, but it was hard to get a picture. Again SOOOOO many people!

Still recovering from the night flight. A little tired. I'm taking it easy the rest of the day. We go to the US Open tomorrow night and I'm SO very excited. Of course we have NO idea who we are going to see, but I don't care. I just want to BE there!!!

Also 11 Madison Garden is SO fine! The best meal I've ever had hands down! It's hard to even describe!! Wow!! WOW!!!

Anywho, day 3 and I'm just getting started!!! :)

After long consideration, I've decided to leave blogharbor and go to WordPress.

Bottom line? It's free and Blogharbor is at lease $80 a year. Granted I may have to add more MBs to my .NET site, but that will NOT be $80 (or even close) as I've already found out.

What did I do?

1) Rendered show into an AVI file from Vegas
2) Re rendered it in Quick Time to Apple TV
3) Uploaded it in Safari for Windows!

So if there's anyone else out there having an issue on a Windows Media Computer.....there ya go! Have fun!!

Wow! It’s already Christmas again!! For the past few months,
I’ve been very busy with work and such that I have not had time to podcast or

...yes it's been a while!....can't explain....loads of stuff!!

What gets me going today is my 110% agreement with People's sexiest man alive choice! Hot, talented, and loyal! Three HUGE OMG's for me....not sure about other females! I'm a weird cookie, so what I think may not be the average female status-quo!

We share the same birth date which is SO cool! (not the year...thank God!) :P But, the only other thing I would add to what I'm attracted to...a man's mind! Is he smart? Not just book smart but street smart....both are HUGE turn-ons! I was always more attracted to the nerds than the jocks....The jocks just made for better prom/Sadie Hawkins pictures and that made mom more happy!! (*grin*) AND if the 'nerd' is HOT? That's an added bonus!!! WOW!!

But the most important turn on (for me) is a man loyal and devoted to one woman! THAT'S SO FRIGGIN' SEXY and HOT!!! Especially for the woman to which he is loyal and devoted to!!! At least that's what turns me on and keeps me coming back for more!

Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT attracted to married men! I feel very strong about marriage! A bond between two people who choose, hopefully with passion as well, to be committed to each other til death! It's a HUGE thing and not to be taken lightly!! It's a decision I want to make once and only with a man I deem worthy enough!! So when ever I do get married, know that the man I choose.....is AMAZING or I wouldn't be with him!!! Everyone else.....just wasn't man enough!!!

This is SO cool! My mom chatted this to me this morning! It's a glimpse behind the curtain viewing on stage! Apparently one of the cute, little muchkin mom's caught some footage! It's pretty weird seeing it from this angle! We did it Thursday, Friday and Saturday and this is from Saturday night. The kids were REALLY good and well behaved! I was SO impressed!!

45th Miss Louisiana Pageant Takes the Online Stage

Through a three-way cooperative endeavor, the Miss Louisiana pageant will have the most comprehensive nationwide coverage, featuring live webcasting and online voting.

MONROE, LA (JUNE 16, 2008) The 45th Anniversary Miss Louisiana Pageant has many surprises sure to dazzle audiences of all ages. But this year through a cooperative endeavor with the Miss Louisiana Organization, NiFTy-TV, and Hill Computing, the 2008 pageant will have comprehensive online coverage all three nights of the pageant.

Utilizing Network Foundation Technologies’ NiFTy Online Television product (www.niftytv.com), the Miss Louisiana Pageant will be broadcast “FREE-for-View” live via the internet. Online users can download a small application to watch the pageant on virtually any computer.

Executive Producer Wayne Gentry says, “This is our second year to webcast and it has been a wonderful avenue to recognize our sponsors and share the hard work of our contestants, production team, and volunteer board.”

In addition to webcasting, internet users will have a new treat this year—the ability to select their own favorite contestant. Preliminary nights of the competition will be held at 7:30pm Thursday, June 19th and Friday, June 20th. The 45th Anniversary Miss Louisiana finale begins at 8pm, Saturday June 21st at the Monroe Civic Center, W.L. Jack Howard Theatre. The webcast will be live all three nights at www.misslouisiana.com, with the statewide television broadcast on Saturday night. Voting begins at 7:45pm Thursday, June 19th and will remain open until just minutes before the announcement of Miss Louisiana 2008.

a CRAZY month!

Well June is going to be a crazy month for
me! Loads of traveling and not much time to check emails! So I wanted
to let everyone know that if I do not answer your email quickly please
understand that I may not be able to!

Seriously this month I'm
doing something almost everyday!! I will have access to email, but I
may not have the time until July to answer back!! I'm so sorry about
this! I do get plain text emails via my cell phone and I'm able to
respond that way!

I do have some things going with some
folks...and you know who you are...and I have those emails tagged and
will try to get back asap!

Looking forward to July's podcast with LOADS to talk about!! YEAH!

New Kids on the WHOA!

A new and quite intriguing friend of mine jokingly gave me an
article on the newly re-united (did they ever break-up?) boy band I so loved in
my tweens, NKOTB or New Kids on the Block. I didn’t expect a rave review…no…rather
their “re-uniting” smelled of desperation (notice I didn’t say “reeked with”).
But really now, the boys…now men…do deserve some kudos for getting back on the
stage…together! For you see from my now learn-ed view of that music era that
their overproduced pop no-talent sound had some meaning in my tweeny life! Most of
us have those shallow moments of youth. (Okay, we all do and there are a lot of
‘em!) You know, those moments of hormonally driven feelings that further
encourage sexually curious brainwaves. And who better for our parents to swoon
over? Some guys we’ll never be able to have! (Talk amongst yourselves!) But
after all this time to come back on stage and reunite? Hmmm…not sure whose idea
it was, but if I were in the room, I’d have a different type of reuniting in
mind! Like why not go for a more Michael Buble feel guys? You wanted to create,
as all boy bands do, that “rat pack” feeling! Several members have tried to
continue the hot sexy “Justin Timberlake-like” solo career falling flat! Hmmm…I
always say that “sexiness” can not really be taught! You either got it or you
look like your faking it…BADLY! There are no in-betweens! Heck, sincerity masks
better as sexy than an adaptation of it!

Needless to say, the article was NOT kind and worse than
that, I believed the guy! It made me glad I didn’t go! Not that I would. I
don’t have time right now to be that brainless and reminiscent for more than 10
minutes a day and that’s usually when I wake up! No, I am saddened that they couldn’t
just let the past glories be. It’s fun to remember, but that’s what I want to
keep locked up in my tweeny closet! God forbid I’m running around on stage in
my near 40’s trying to recapture a pop sensation. Someone please shoot me! NO,
don’t do that, just tranquilize me. I’ll feel much better after a stint in
rehab.

AMPTP Suspends Negotiations with Screen Actors
Guild

Guild Offers to Continue and Negotiate "Around the Clock" to
Complete Deal

Los Angeles, May 6, 2008 -The AMPTP
suspended negotiations with Screen Actors Guild today over the objections of
SAG's negotiating committee. The committee had urged that the AMPTP continue
discussion and had offered to negotiate around the clock if necessary in order
to secure an agreement.

The AMPTP declined to continue negotiations with
SAG claiming that it was necessary to turn their attention to negotiating with
American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

Screen
Actors Guild National President Alan Rosenberg said, "It is unfortunate and
deeply troubling that the AMPTP would suspend our negotiations at this critical
juncture. We have modified our proposals over the last three weeks in effort to
bargain a fair contract for our members. We are committed to preserving rights
that have been in place for decades and not giving the studios the right to use
excerpts of our work in new media without our consent and negotiation. Our
negotiating team is prepared to work around the clock for as long as it takes to
get a fair deal. We want to keep the town working."

Over the last four
weeks Screen Actors Guild negotiated in good faith and modified many of its
proposals to the AMPTP. To date, the AMPTP has offered only a few modifications
to its new media proposal which was submitted to SAG in three documents
containing 36 provisions that differed from the deals agreed to with the WGA and
DGA.

SAG's National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Doug Allen
stated, "We were hopeful that we could continue negotiations with the AMPTP and
reach a tentative agreement. We modified our proposals in effort to narrow the
gap between us and now we need the AMPTP do the same. SAG's objective is to
keep the town working and get a fair contract, so we are gravely disappointed
that we will now have to delay to a process that we started over three weeks
ago. We are willing to work for as long as it takes to negotiate a good
agreement for our members."

The AMPTP put forward a proposal that
differed substantially from the deals signed with the DGA and WGA. Management's
clip demand would gut existing provisions regarding actors' consent to use of
their clips and would allow studios and networks to use or sell clips - going
forward and from their libraries - in any way they choose and without consent.

The Leona effect!

She is absolutely the best pop vocalist I have ever heard!
Raw talent, hands down! Unbelievably amazing! Even when she's ill she sounds
better that most of the pop divas of the day at their best! Who an I talking
about? Leona Lewis! winner of
the The X Factor!! (Simon's UK
version of an Idol competition)

I first heard of her on a Yahoo rss feed and didn't think much about it! Some
new singer touted to be the "next best thing" is constantly in our
foreground as the music industry attempts to discover the next new music-pop-culture
phenomenon!

The next is when my [vocal] student Rachel went on and on about how awesome she
is! [Understand that Rachel currently goes to an Arkansas magnet school where she is exposed
to a LOT more culture than most young women in the south.]
So in my free time I began to follow her [Rachel's] advice and YouTube her! And
I was SIMPLY AMAZED!!

Not only was she a powerhouse vocalist she was unusually humble (and not
falsely so)! Which is SOOO refreshing! Words can not even explain how wonderful
I thought (and still think) she was! (You simply have to listen for yourself!)

Then I began reading the comments and was quite alarmed! It seems that
"we" American's are not happy with the "love" of this UK
Idol! Americans, I'm sad to say, are not welcoming her as a fresh, new and AMAZING
voice of all time, they are jealous of her sensation simply because she's an X
Factor winner!

There are comments like, "Our [American] idols are just as good!! In fact
better!" comments are not just wrong, but blindly wrong! As far as talent?
She takes the cake from ALL the winners of Simon's "Idol"
competitions. And, though I'm not a fan of the show, I do leave the radio on
when most "Idol Winners" songs are played! They are good top 40
songs. (Heck, we all know that a little talent and an AWESOME producer goes WAY
farther than great talent and crappy producing!) But, I, as a vocalist, artist
and teacher of voice, do recognize that her [Leona's] voice is light years
better then they are!!!!

It all boils down to this: Her marketability is tainted in America....just
because she's an X Factor winner!! And it proves that American's are yet again
too prideful and competitive to be accepting of another country that breeds
excellence!

The ONLY thing I think is wrong...if you can use the word 'wrong'....with
Leona's voice is that it's TOO perfect!! Can that even BE a problem? In America, yes!
"We" go for the voices that are different! Interesting if you will!
Why do you think we fell in love with Amy Winehouse? Her voice is interesting!
Janis Joplin....interesting....Madonna...interesting....Streisand...interesting…Alisha
Keys….interesting! Their voices have a sound that is unique! You see, a great
song makes a quick one-hit wonder but an interesting vocal sound is poised to
make a pop star. Combine the 2 and you have the makings of a Diva or Devo!
(Devo e.g. Elvis, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Elton John, Freddie Mercury…)
And ultimately…if their career is managed properly…a Legend! These singers were
not perfect, they were interesting!

Leona just needs time to find “her” voice! Right now, she’s
an AMAZING imitation of her contemporaries! Even better than! It’s like if
Mariah and Whitney had a voice-baby…it would be her!! But, we already have both
of those voices!

And yes, it’s true that she [Leona] has a nice sized schnoz
(such an American thing…HELLO Streisand)…she is STILL a BEAUTIFUL girl!! All of
21 years and already singing like that, and let us hope and pray that “the
powers that be” in control of her career protect that voice from over singing!

All in all! This poor girl if reaping the negative benefits
of being an X Factor Idol winner! (…at least in America!!....how very sad!) It
would have been better for her to have been discovered my Simon randomly and he
just took her on without her competing in the competition! It just seems more
legit THAT way! I guess for us [Americans] it’s more of an “American Dream!” (Crazy,
huh?) Perception is VERY powerful!! Especially in the entertainment business!! And
especially in America!

Coffee giant's Music label dismantles after 1 year

After just a year of operation, Starbucks is getting out of the recorded music business.

Operations for the coffee vendor's label, Hear Music, which released albums by Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell and James Taylor last year, are being turned over to Concord Music Group, which has handled back shop operations for the imprint.

Ken Lombard,
who ran Hear Music as president of Starbucks Entertainment, has left
the company. Chris Bruzzo, chief technology officer, has been promoted
to senior vice president and will assume the leadership helm of the
Entertainment category.

Starbucks referred to the moves as a
restructuring of its entertainment business to focus on digital
strategy and core content with music and books. Starbucks will look for
ways to increase wi-fi related offerings and other in-store technology.

Starbucks will continue to work with the William Morris Agency to select book offerings for its stores.

Concord
Music Group has a family of labels including Concord, Fantasy and Stax.
Unlike other music groups, the individual labels do not have specific
chiefs.

Hear Music has about four or five more releases on its slate for 2008, among them a June release from Brit roots R&B singer James Hunter.

Hear and Concord most famously partnered on Ray Charles' final album, "Genius Loves Company," which sold millions and won four Grammy Awards.

their son’s recovery from autism in light of the recent federal court
decision which conceded that vaccines could have contributed to another
child’s autistic condition.

Carrey and McCarthy’s son, Evan, has been healed thanks to
breakthroughs that may not be scientifically proven, but have
definitely helped, such as a gluten-free, casein-free diet, vitamin
supplementation, detox of metals, and anti-fungals for the yeast
overgrowths that plagued his intestines. Once his neurological function
was recovered through these medical treatments, speech therapy and
applied behavior analysis helped him learn the skills he could not
learn while he was frozen in autism.

When Evan was re-evaluated after these treatments, state
workers were amazed by his improvement. But although Evan is now 5, not
a single member of the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, or any
other health authority has asked to evaluate and understand how Evan
recovered from autism. Instead, they simply posit that he was
misdiagnosed and never had autism to begin with.

Carrey and McCarthy believe that autism is an environmental
illness, and that while vaccines are not the only environmental
trigger, they do play a major role. Even if the CDC is not convinced of
a link between vaccines and autism, changing the vaccine schedule
should be seriously considered as a precautionary measure.

I just got this from a friend! It's weird! I met him and sang for him!! He was SUCH an awesome guy!! He even posed for a picture with me!!! Here's that email:

I just picked up on this and wanted to make it known. I had sent a
Christmas card to Mr. Heston in 2006 with an explanation of how we
might wish him to play a small role in the film series we are trying
to make happen this year. It seems so long ago so much has happened
since, but I do remember getting a response back. One of our group
actually played a role with Charlton. We discussed that several years ago.

Charlton Heston dead at 84

Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the
chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and
other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He
was 84.

The actor died Saturday night at his home in Beverly Hills with his
wife Lydia at his side, family spokesman Bill Powers said.

Powers declined to comment on the cause of death or provide further
details.

Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with
Alzheimer's disease, saying, "I must reconcile courage and surrender
in equal measure."

Help me with my next album!

Well, I thought that this would be a great idea to help me make my next album. I'm hoping that it will help me with studio time and a computer that I need for the Giga Orchestra software that was given to me as a gift! I have to have a computer that fits the criteria of the software, and it's pretty expensive.

If you can help, that would be great! ChipIn does take a bit off the top, so it may take me a while to get the amount I need. Any little bit helps. Everyone who contributes $50 or more will get their name on my album!

I honestly don't think I'll raise that much.....especially by October, but I thought it was worth a try to see if fans could help. If not, I understand! I'll just have to wait! :)

AFTRA Contracts they DON'T want you to see!!

Here's a link to a watchdog website for union actors! I'm not sure if this guy is going to get in trouble for having the AFTRA contract out for everyone to see!! Eek!! The guy shows where the problems are in the contract!!! WOW!!

Here's a bit for what he said on the website in reference to certain sections of the contract:

If you
don’t believe AFTRA’s current leadership doesn’t want you see these
contracts, let me exhibit a letter and contract that AFTRA sent me
after considerable pressure on my part.

It is the “It’s a Laugh
Productions, Inc.” agreement between Disney and AFTRA leadership. As,
you read it, remember it sacrifices actors livelihood to a company that
reported annual revenue of THIRTY FIVE BILLION DOLLARS--a
significant amount that Disney credited, in the press, to such highly
successful AFTRA cable shows like Hannah Montana and others.

You’ll notice the use of intimidation in the letter to persuade me to NOT reveal the contracts content to you. Sorry, guys, it ain’t gonna work on the Ol’ Dog.

Now let’s look at that AFTRA contract that they don’t want you to see, for good reason.

You’ll notice beyond the residual giveaway in Section 4. (Exhibition Period) the particular Egregious Section 8.
(Pre-Payment of Residuals) that allows the good-hearted folks and
Disney to apply, with no limitations, original compensation against any
residuals that actors, mostly kids, may receive.

(SAG allows buyouts under certain conditions, but there are restrictions not found in the Disney contract.

For instance, the SAG TV
agreement forbids applying original compensation against residuals for
day players and term players. As to all other performers they “may
agree to an advance payment for reruns…provided the payment is
separately listed and is paid in addition to the salary…”)

You’ll notice that this
particular despicable pre-condition isn’t included in Lifetime’s “Army
Wives” contract. (Which I will post next) But then most savvy adult
actors wouldn’t go for that sh*t.

What can we say Mickey loves kids.

Justice Department gives go-ahead to deal

By WILLIAM TRIPLETT

The Dept. of Justice said on Monday it has found no reason to block or oppose the proposed merger between XM and Sirius satellite radio companies.

The Federal Communications Commission has yet to rule on the deal, but DOJ’s announcement is a huge victory for Sirius topper Mel Karmazin, who in the last year has repeatedly appeared before congressional committees and met with regulators to answer questions and parry critics’ claims that the merger would constitute a monopoly.

“After a careful and thorough review of the proposed transaction, the (DOJ antitrust) division concluded that the evidence does not demonstrate that the proposed merger of XM and Sirius is likely to substantially lessen competition, and that the transaction therefore is not likely to harm consumers,” said assistant attorney general Thomas O. Barnett. “We found we should not challenge the transaction.”

Barnett said DOJ lawyers rejected arguments made mostly by consumer groups and the National Assn. of Broadcasters - that satellite radio was a unique market, and a merger would allow creation of a monopoly that would jack up subscription rates.

“There was no evidence to support that proposition,” Barnett said.

Indeed, certain factors argued against it, such as “competitive alternative services available to consumers, technological change that is expected to make those alternatives increasingly attractive over time, and efficiencies likely to flow from the transaction that could benefit consumers,” Barnett said.

Another key point that Barnett said antitrust lawyers examined was the likely effect the merger would have on current competition between XM and Sirius. He said they concluded there would be no effect since the two satcasters don’t really compete against each other at the moment.

“Because customers must acquire equipment that is specialized to the satellite radio service to which they subscribe, and which cannot receive the other provider’s signal, there has never been significant competition for customers who have already subscribed to one or the other service,” he said.

XM and Sirius certainly compete for new subscribers, particularly in retail distribution, vying for consumers to buy one company’s specific radio receivers, Barnett said. Sill, he added, DOJ found that “the evidence did not support defining a market limited to the two satellite radio firms that would exclude various alternative sources for audio entertainment, and similarly did not establish that the combined firm could profitably sustain an increased price to satellite radio consumers.”

Barnett said DOJ was closing its investigation into the proposed merger without suggesting any conditions be imposed on it.

Former FCC chairman Reed Hundt said the news was a powerfully good omen for the deal. “Based on my experience, when Justice blesses a merger without conditions, it verges on the inconceivable that the FCC would stop it.”

Debate over the merger had become a Washington battle royale ever since Karmazin announced it more than a year ago. NAB, several consumer groups and numerous members of Congress spoke out against it, urging that it be denied. About an equal number of pols as well as various organizations urged approval. Committees in both the House and Senate held hearings that often heated up when those in favor or opposed to the merger testified.

A rep for Karmazin said he would not be commenting on the announcement. But reaction from others was swift and strong.

“We are astonished that the Justice Dept. would propose granting a monopoly to two companies that systematically broke FCC rules for more than a decade,” said NAB exec V.P. Dennis Wharton. “To hinge approval of this monopoly on XM and Sirius’s refusal to deliver on a promise of interoperable radios is nothing short of breathtaking.”

“The Justice Dept.’s approval of the merger of XM and Sirius satellite radio is another disappointing example of (the Bush) administration’s blatant disregard for the public interest with regard to media ownership,” said Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), a foe of the merger. “This merger will eliminate all competition in satellite radio, and it’s the American consumer that will pay the price.”

“We applaud the Department of Justice for acting in the public interest to provide clarity in the marketplace and confidence to consumers,” the Consumer Electronics Assn. said in a statement. “To the extent consumers have been awaiting a decision on this merger to purchase satellite radio systems, they can now move forward with confidence. Now that the DOJ has approved this merger without conditions, we urge the FCC to move quickly to a decision.”

Watchdog group Public Knowledge repeated its calls for conditions on the merger, urging the FCC to exact a guarantee that the merged entity would not raise sub prices for three years, among other demands.

Earlier this month, FCC chairman Kevin J. Martin said he has directed staff to draw up options concerning the proposed merger but that an announcement probably would not be made before the end of March.

I have a service that I thought was really reliable!! BUT for the past few months I've NOT been getting emails for jobs!! I thought......that's odd, because I usually get a lot of gigs from it!! Soooo, I double checked my email information and in fact changed it and VIOLA I got emails from 3 months ago!! Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! I'm not going to mention the service because I sent an email going...."what the heck!" Maybe it was a glitch, but I'm responding to these as fast as possible..... just hoping these clients don't think I'm a loser for not responding!!!!

AFTRA ratifies ABC, CBS contracts

Roughly 200 members ink digital deals

Members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have
ratified two-year contracts with ABC and CBS for their respective
network news staffers.

The
agreements take effect May 16 and cover about 200 on-air journalists at
the network divisions of ABC and CBS, including news anchors,
correspondents and reporters.

"These agreements are a big step
forward for broadcast journalists as they improve wages and benefits,"
said AFTRA president Roberta Reardon in a statement. "Given the state
of the broadcast industry and emerging new media platforms in
particular, the new agreements with ABC and CBS protect AFTRA members
as they work in the digital landscape, and secure current contract
protections."

AFTRA said the agreements include pay increases for
network staffers, fee increases for freelance correspondents,
improvements in pension coverage, and coverage for work by members in
new digital platforms.

The agreements were approved by AFTRA's
national board administrative committee last week after the terms had
been ratified by the affected members.

Earlier this year, AFTRA
reached a tentative agreement with the recording industry on its sound
recordings code and with the four major TV networks and producers on
the network television code, which covers non-primetime work.
